Sounding of sirens in Itabira

Vale clarifies that on Wednesday (03/27), an alert system was triggered in Itabira. The triggering of the siren in Itabira was a technical mistake. Therefore, there is no emergency situation in this location and no need for the communities in the region to be evacuated.

Therefore, Vale, on Wednesday (27/3), as a preventive measure, triggered the protocol to move to level 3 of the Emergency Action Plan for Mining Dams (PAEBM) for three of its dams. The dams that will move to level three are: B3 / B4, at the Mar Azul Mine in Macacos / Nova Lima, and the Forquilha I and Forquilha III dams, at the Fábrica Mine, in Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais.

Once the situation was identified, it was immediately corrected by the technical area.

Vale reiterates that there was no change to the safety level of any of Itabira’s dams.
