World Humanitarian Day: a race against climate change

On August 19, World Humanitarian Day is celebrated and each year, to mark the date, the UN (United Nations) chooses a specific theme to raise awareness about a humanitarian issue that affects everyone on our planet and that speaks for the safety, survival, well-being, and dignity of people affected by humanitarian crises and volunteers who act in these settings.

This year, World Humanitarian Day brings to light the direct cost to life because of climate change triggered by the emission of greenhouse gases, in way to pressure world leaders to compromise and take meaningful and urgent action to protect the most vulnerable populations around the world.

A global challenge for the survival, well-being and dignity of populations affected by the climate crisis.

Our climate agenda is a strategic priority to Vale and is align with the New Pact to Society and the company’s cultural change. As a result, we have been working continuously and guided by scientific and practical references, always adhering to our internal policies and standards.

Check out our main goals and deadlines for direct and urgent action as a transformation agent for the climate conditions on our planet below:

Our Management

As part of the strategy, and in line with the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), Vale carried out a preliminary scenario analysis of its business resilience in the three climate change scenarios, considering the scenarios of the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The construction of climate-related scenarios allows Vale to identify indicators to monitor the external environment and recognize changes in scenarios more quickly, allowing for a quick adaptation to current needs. As a result, the company invests in businesses and technologies that support the growth of a low-carbon economy and provide solutions for the supply chain and society at large.
