In the same survey, we came third in terms of responsibility and corporate governance, and sixth in a ranking of Brazilian executives’ dream companies.
  • Our CEO, Murilo Ferreira, came 16th in a list of the executives with the best reputation in Brazil.
  • Third place in the “Dream Company” ranking by Brazilian magazine Você S/A.
  • Vale CEO Murilo Ferreira won a Valor Executive Award, given by newspaper Valor Econômico, in the Mining category.
  • British organization Women In Mining (WIM) included three Vale employees in its global list of the 100 most inspiring women in mining: Executive Director for Human Resources, Health & Safety, Sustainability and Energy, Vania Somavilla; Mine and Plant Technical Service Manager in Sudbury, Canada, Samantha Esply; and Health and Safety Director, Jennifer Hooper.
  • The Neide Castanha Award, given by Brazil’s Presidential Human Rights Secretariat, in the Social Responsibility category.
  • Silver medal as part of the Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence, dubbed the “Nobel Prize of Industry” by U.S. magazine Business Week. Find out more.
  • Vale’s operations in Canada received awards from the Mining Association of Canada (MAC) for the social performance of its Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) initiative.
  • Vale won a Social Service Award in the 2013 Asia-Pacific Enterprise Leadership Awards (Apela), organized by Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), for its social responsibility stance and its social investments in Malaysia.
  • Vale won an Environment Prize in the “Air Quality” category, given by the Federation of Industries of Espírito Santo (Findes).
  • Listed among 20 outstanding companies in the 2013 edition of Best Innovator – Brazil’s Most Innovative Companies, a study published in Época Negócios magazine.
  • Top rated among eight Brazilian companies in a ranking published in November by the European Commission, showing the companies that have invested the most in research and development. Vale came 98th out of the 2,000 companies listed.
  • Only Latin American company among the top 20 in the Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises (MAKE) Awards, run by U.S. institution The Know Network.
  • One of eight Brazilian companies to feature in a ranking by Fortune magazine of the world’s 500 largest companies, coming 210th in 2013.
  • First place in the mining sector in a ranking of Brazil’s 1,000 largest companies, produced by newspaper Valor Econômico.
  • Awarded a 2013 Transparency Trophy by the Brazilian Association of Finance, Administration and Accounting Executives (Anefac). This trophy is given to companies with best practices in terms of accounting information transparency, quality of administrative reports, and consistency of published data, among other factors.

Certifications

CDP Climate Change

In 2014, we achieved the second highest score for transparency in an evaluation based on the CDP questionnaire among Latin American companies, and for the fifth time we were included in the Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI).

Brazilian GHG Protocol Program

Our greenhouse gas emissions inventory was given a Gold Label by the program for the fifth consecutive year.

Efficient Carbon Index (ICO2)

We participated in the Efficient Carbon Index (ICO2), an initiative run by the São Paulo Stock Exchange (Bovespa) and Brazil’s National Development Bank (BNDES).

Sustainability Report – A+

We published our Sustainability Report in accordance with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines. Our application level was classified as A+.
