Vale has offered Tete and Moatize authorities the sprayers that are already being used to disinfect public roads, markets, and public transport. Thus, the company aims to help prevent the spread of the new coronavirus in these communities.
According to Vale, the goal is to prevent contact with any infectious agents, preventing contamination and giving people confidence at the same time.
In addition to the sprayers, Vale has also provided public hygiene material that is serving the population. The delivery of the equipment to the authorities of Tete and Moatize is part of the Memorandum of Understanding that the company has signed with the Mozambican Government and which provides for aid amounting to US$2 million to tackle COVID-19. The donation of hospital equipment and material for prevention and individual protection of health care professionals is under analysis. As part of this huge humanitarian aid package that will be distributed to several provinces of the country, 80 thousand rapid tests will also be provided.
Since the outbreak of pneumonia due to the new coronavirus, Vale has proactively taken all preventive measures to ensure the safety of its employees and the communities surrounding its operations. Vale carefully monitors the evolution of the pandemic in Mozambique and worldwide.
The cleaning teams are working on the disinfection of public spaces and public transport vehicles using the sprayers donated by Vale.
