Oman: Vale produces Hands Sanitizer in its laboratory
Page Content
Vale Oman succeeded to achieve a new accomplishment of producing hand sanitizers in its own laboratory
during the pandemic period to provide safer workplace and better control of the virus spread. Vale Oman
laboratory team used the World Health Organization (WHO) guided formula for in-house preparation of
Hands Sanitizer. WHO formulation has a better ability to kill the viruses and bacteria compared to the
commercial hand sanitizers available in the market.
Vale's hands sanitizer is highly safe for this purpose. After careful management of change procedure
involving health, safety and environmental evaluation, with support of Vale Oman management team,
Vale's Laboratory has prepared samples as a trial batch that has been tested and approved by
Vale's Clinic and the Ministry Commerce and Industry.
About the initiative
Younis Mamari, Supervisor of the Vale Oman Laboratory, explains more about the initiative and the
importance of teamwork in a quick interview.
What Motivated you to seek this solution?
The COVID-19 impact in the supply chain impacted the availability of hand sanitizers in the market,
and
also news that Ministry of Health was removing low quality hand sanitizers from the market. So,
guided
by the Vale´s value ‘do what is right’, we developed with our own resources a hand sanitizer, guided
by
WHO (World Health Organization) instructions.
How was the teamwork?
In fact is an accomplishment of real teamwork, as in collaboration with Health, Safety and
Environment
we performed a management of change analysis to check how safe and reliable was the product and the
fabrication method, after a trial test in our Vale Oman Clinic, the Communication and External
Affairs
team submit the proposal for the Omani Ministry of Commerce in Muscat for approval, which granted
the
authorization for internal fabrication and utilization among Vale employees and contractors.
