Around 24,000 employees have signed up to receive Vale-Cultura in just one month

Vale Cultura

Launched by the Ministry of Culture in 2013, the Vale-Cultura (culture voucher) has become a huge success among our company’s employees. In little more than a month, approximately 24,000 people in our operations and offices across the whole of Brazil have joined up to receive the benefit. The benefit of R$50 per month is provided to increase access to cultural products and services, such as theatre, cinema, museums, and shows. The money may also be used to buy or rent DVDs, CDs and books.

The Vale-Cultura is expected to inject R$25 billion into the cultural sector’s production chain. The federal government expects that this financial boost will help to transform the country’s cultural scene. Today just 14% of Brazilians go to the cinema once a month, 92% of the population have never visited a museum and 93% have never attended an art exhibition.

The Vale-Cultura is valid throughout Brazil and functions like a pre-paid debit card. It can be used at credit card payment terminals at registered establishments that offer cultural products or services. Vale employees that would like to receive this benefit can find out more on the company intranet or from their location’s HR department.
