About Vale

Vitória will receive virtual reality laboratory

Vitória will receive virtual reality laboratory that will create innovative solutions for strategic issues for society, such as urban infrastructure and railroad safety. All this by using technology, state-of-the-art equipment and a lot of creativity. The new space, which is expected to start operating in the second half of this year, is the result of a five-year agreement signed between Vale and the Federal Institute of Espírito Santo (Ifes) on August 4th. New in Espírito Santo, the structure will initially operate in the facilities of Ifes.

Thevirtual reality room, located in Vale-Minas Gerais, makes a 3D virtual flight over all the operations of the company in Brazil

Vale will provide the necessary technologies and equipment to execute the project. Some of them have already been used by the company in the simulation of operations and maintenance activities in the Logistics area.

“The partnership with Ifes was born about a year ago, when we started the dialogues in order to make it viable”, explains Vale’s Executive Manager of Engineering and Planning, Adilson Nico. “Today we have at Vale the Logistics Engineering Center, a structure that takes in state-of-the-art simulators that ‘reproduce’ different types of Vale’s activities. The train operating simulators, for example, are a faithful reproduction of Vale’s railroad tracks in Brazil and worldwide. Our intention is to provide some of the technology and technical knowledge applied in these tools, which have been used by Vale for some years, to enable the creation of the virtualization laboratory”, he adds.

The initial structure of the laboratory will include state-of-the-art multimedia computers and other equipment with state-of-the-art technology, such as virtual reality glasses for immersion in the simulation environment, in addition to the respective software for the development of these environments. The idea is that, in the future, other used equipment will be added to the structure.

The new space will be managed by Ifes within the agreement for development activities aimed at the virtual reality simulators already used by Vale in the Logistics Engineering Center.

Logistics Engineering Center

Installed at the Tubarão Complex in Vitória (ES), Vale’s Logistics Engineering Center (CEL) gathers structures for research and training of employees who work in the areas of railroads and ports. The Center also has a headquarters in São Luís (Maranhão) and a unit in Governador Valadares aimed at training the teams that work on the maintenance of the Vitória-Minas Railroad (EFVM).

CEL has different simulators of railroad and port operations, technical library, training rooms, railroad car loading simulator, railroad model for operating regulations, 3D software for railroad training and content collection room for construction of didactic materials, among other structures.
