The main goal of Vale Global Trainee Program is to feed our company’s talent pipeline. An influx of newly-developed talent will help us to transform Vale and shape a more digital, global and sustainable future.

Participants will be challenged on a daily basis to make Vale one of the biggest players in the mining sector while working on impactful and meaningful projects. Over 12 months, you will have the opportunity to develop your career, advance your technical competencies and key leadership behaviours, exchange experiences with people from different locations and cultures, and learn through an innovative approach.

Positions

Brazil - 23 positions

In Brazil, there are open positions in our corporate areas and in our Ferrous business:

  • Operational opportunities could exist in Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Pará or Maranhão.
  • Corporate opportunities could exist in Rio de Janeiro or Minas Gerais.

Canada - 12 positions

In Canada, there are positions open in our Base Metals business:

This customized learning path has diverse content options that can be tailored uniquely for you. Its innovative learning architecture is based in technology and gamification. Development Program

Vale has a continuous learning culture in which people own their development and career directions. Throughout the 12 months of the program, you will perform behavioural, business and technical development activities according to your area and career interest – with others and in a structured way – to combine different ways of learning and expand your development opportunities. The program structure has on-the-job, virtual, and in-person activities that will include:

  • On-boarding exercises
  • Short and impactful job rotations to provide knowledge and experience in different areas (defined according to the areas in which you are allocated)
  • Mentor and leader coaching to support your development
  • A formal assessment and self-assessment process with continuous feedback
  • Participation in digital and global multidisciplinary projects related to your rotation areas
  • Socio-emotional and business development actions
  • Access to content, tools and initiatives that will help you understand and better manage your own career.

Steps

Application – September 6 to November 5, 2018*

This is the step when we get to know you a bit. You will complete an application form through which you’ll have to answer questions about yourself, your educational background and the selection process.

* For Canadians only, registration will take place between September 6th and January 7th.

Online test – September/November

This online test will be a unique experience through which you will learn more about Vale’s business and make some business decisions. You will also answer questions about your work style and ability to analyze and solve problems.

Online assessment – October/November

This online test will be a unique experience through which you will learn more about Vale’s business and make some business decisions. You will also answer questions about your work style and ability to analyze and solve problems.

Final panel – December

This day will provide you with an opportunity to come face-to-face with the Vale director and manager who may be your coach or mentor during the Development Program. You will also have a chance to ask questions and interact informally with us. But remember, this will be “D Day”! You will be assessed and will have tasks to complete.

Hiring process – December 2018 / January 2019

This will be your moment to learn if you have been approved to join the next generation at the Global Trainee Program 2019. We wish you luck and hope you will be able to celebrate!

FAQ
1. Who may take part in the program?
All candidates participating in the 2019 Vale Global Trainee Program need to be fluent English speakers who have completed an undergraduate or graduate program between July 2015 and December 2018. Graduates from all courses are eligible, as long as the applicant is aligned with Vale’s values.
2. How may I apply?
The only way to apply is by completing the form between September 6 and November 5, 2018. Sorry, we don’t accept CVs by email or through any other website.
3. What are the stages of the selection process and when will they take place?

We are excited to promote a selective process that will facilitate positive experiences and development for everyone involved.

The stages we’ve planned are:

  • Application: September 6 to November 5, 2018
  • Online test: Last half of September to first half of November
  • Online assessment: October and November
  • Final panel: December
  • Hiring process: December 2018 / January 2019
4. Who will conduct evaluations during the selection process?
All steps will be run by Cia de Talentos, with the participation of Vale’s HR team. The firm’s managers and directors will also join the assessments for the final panel.
5. Where are there openings?
  • Brazil: Minas Gerais, Maranhão, Pará, Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro
  • Canada: Sudbury and Toronto
  • Mozambique: Nacala, Maputo and Tete
6. Can current Vale employees and interns apply?
Only interns currently employed by Vale are eligible to apply and they will participate in the exact same application and selection process as external candidates.
7. How can I track the process and my success or failure in each stage?

8. Where will the program’s stages take place?
We will let candidates know throughout the process. Just remember that the only stage in which you need to show up personally is the Final Panel – all other stages are online.
9. What should I do if there’s a problem with my assessment?

10. How long is the program?
It takes 12 months to complete the development trail.
11. Do candidates really need to be available to travel or move?
Yes, these are selective process criterias that will be evaluated.
12. When is the admission date and when do the new trainees begin?
Admission will start in December 2018, and the Trainee Program will begin in January 2019. We can’t wait!
13. Who should I contact if I have an issue?

14. How will I know my status in the process?
Relax. You will receive either positive or negative feedback by email.
15. I made a mistake filling out the application form I sent. What should I do?
No stress - while applications are still open, you can modify your form responses. Just log in to the Cia de Talentos website. But remember that once you have received a return from the first step, you will no longer be able to change the form.
16. How is the online test?
The online test asks questions that bring up far more fundamental topics than CVs and prerequisites. There is one single test that requires 27 questions to be answered within 90 minutes. You will be able to access the test three times before finishing it, and the final screen will show you your feedback on the spot. Zero secrets.
17. What if my Internet connection breaks down while I’m taking an assessment? Will time be deducted from my response?
No, you will have a total of three opportunities to access the test to complete the assessment.
18. May I carry on an assessment if I run out of time?
No, sorry. You must complete each assessment strictly within the time frame.
19. Does Vale bear the costs of transportation and accommodation during the selection process?
No, Vale does not bear the costs of transportation and accommodation for candidates travelling to take part in the process, neither are there reimbursements. Although we can help you out with your questions or if you need any tips. And remember: the only step that requires you to attend personally is the final panel.
20. What if I miss any step?
This is important. Participation is compulsory in all steps, including the online steps.
21. Do recruited trainees who need to be relocated from their current address receive financial support?
No, Vale does not bear this type of costs
22. Do I need to have a work visa already for the country I selected?
Yes, only natives or those who already have a work visa for their chosen country may be recruited for that particular opening.
