National Support

National Support

Vale is proud to operate in Canada; we care about this country and its citizens. We therefore have a responsibility to support the organizations, groups, and projects that make Canada a wonderful place to learn, to live and to work. Geographically speaking, our national community spans from coast to coast, and is defined only by our nation’s borders.

Vale looks to support national programs that benefit Canadians across the country and that align with our values and objectives. We are committed to building strong, strategic partnerships with organizations that both understand and help us advance our business and community investment objectives.

Examples of National Support

We are proud to support many different national initiatives. Below are just a few examples of our recent endeavours:

One Laptop Per Child

A young boy happily plays on a laptopSince 2010, Vale has been a committed partner of the Belinda Stronach Foundation in helping to supply Aboriginal children in select Canadian communities with computers through the One Laptop Per Child Program. The organization’s mandate fits with Vale’s philanthropic goals of empowering individuals and improving education. Thus far, thousands of computers have been distributed to dozens of schools across the country.

Actua Summer Camps

Across the country, Vale sponsors summer day camps for children eager to learn more about science, technology, engineering and math. The week-long camps deliver life-changing experiences for these young people, who might later be drawn to a career in the fields of mining, engineering or technology.

The program pairs an Aboriginal role model with an Aboriginal expert in the mining industry to visit classrooms and answer questions about mining.

Vale’s Community Investment Review Committee meets three times a year to review all requests and measure them against our Community Investment Criteria, to determine which investments best align with our objectives and fit within our budget.
