Vale miners gearing up to explore the Thompson mines.Thompson, Manitoba, known as “the Hub of the North,” is located 740 kilometers north of Winnipeg and is named after John F. Thompson, chairman of International Nickel when a significant body of ore was discovered there in 1956.

Our Manitoba Operations, with two operating mines, is located in the awe-inspiring heart of the northern boreal region. It has a strong future in mining and milling, with an ongoing mission to grow as a safe, prosperous and sustainable nickel producer. The operations employ about 900 people and cover some 250 acres.
