Chief Executive Officer, Vale Canada Executive Director, Base Metals
Jennifer Maki was named Chief Executive Officer of Vale Canada and Executive Director of Vale Base Metals in November 2014.
Ms. Maki has distinguished herself as an astute leader at Vale by taking firm action in cost management and control, implementing funding strategies, negotiating joint venture agreements in Base Metals, resolving pension fund issues for our Base Metals companies, and demonstrating exceptional commitment and motivational skills.

Previous positions held by Ms. Maki include Chief Financial Officer/Executive Vice-President and Vice-President/Treasurer. She has participated actively in managing our Base Metals businesses outside Canada as a member of the Board of Commissioners of PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (PTVI) since 2007 and currently serves as its President Commissioner.
Before joining Vale in 2003, Ms. Maki worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers for a decade. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada and became a Chartered Accountant in 1996. Since 2012, Ms. Maki has served on the Board of Ronald McDonald House® Toronto, which provides a home away from home for seriously ill children and their families.
Chief Financial Officer – Vale Base Metals
Andrea Almeida is the Chief Financial Officer for Vale Base Metals. Andrea oversees all financial activities across the Base Metals business and is responsible for directing the financial strategy, planning forecasts and overseeing investment and equity raising activities. Andrea joined Vale SA as a trainee in 1993. She is a production engineer with a Masters of Business Administration in finance and management. She has held a series of management positions specializing in Corporate Risk Management, and lead the Global Risk Management area for the last five years for Vale SA.
Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Base Metals
Robert Morris is Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Base Metals business; his role also includes oversight for product flow and logistics. Joining the company in 2005, Robert has occupied posts in Germany, Japan and now Toronto.
Chief Operating Officer, Canada and U.K., Base Metals
Conor Spollen is Chief Operating Officer, overseeing all of Vale's Operations in Canada and the U.K. He joined Vale in April 2008 as Director of Industrial Project Development.
Executive Vice President, Legal and Strategic Projects
Mark Travers is Executive Vice President, Legal and Strategic Projects. Mark
oversees all law-related activities across the Base Metals business. He joined the company in 2001.
Vice President of Vale’s Ontario Operations
Stuart Harshaw is Vice President of Vale’s Ontario Operations, overseeing six operating mines, a mill, smelter and nickel refinery in Sudbury and a cobalt and precious metals refinery in Port Colborne. Stuart joined the company in 1990 as a metallurgical engineer and has since held roles of increasing responsibility in Canada, the UK and Singapore.
Vice President of Vale’s Newfoundland and Labrador Operations
Stuart Macnaughton is Vice President of Vale’s Newfoundland and Labrador Operations. He oversees the Voisey’s Bay Mine Site, the corporate office in St. John’s and the brand new processing facility in Long Harbour.
Vice President of Vale’s Manitoba Operations
Mark Scott is Vice President for Vale’s Manitoba Operations, overseeing the entire mining, milling, smelting and refining complex. With a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Degree from Dalhousie University and a Masters of Industrial Relations (MIR) from the University of Toronto, Mark began his career at Vale’s Ontario Operations in 2001 and joined the operation in Thompson, Manitoba in 2003.
