Mozambique: Nacala Logistics supports the Nampula province with a donation of 15 thousand COVID-19 tests

Today, Nacala Logistics delivered 15 thousand tests to the health authorities of Nampula province to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic. The delivery ceremony was attended by Munira Abudou, the director of Social Affairs Services, and Nadir Amad, the general cargo administrator of Nacala Logistics.

This donation is part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Vale – a shareholder of Nacala Logistics – and the Mozambican Government in April. It includes the provision of US$2 million to enable the country to tackle the new coronavirus pandemic.

At the delivery ceremony, Munira Abudou praised the company's support stating that COVID-19 can only be tackled with the engagement of all. “We have a lot to thank Nacala Logistics for this help that comes during the serum-epidemiological survey at Nampula province,” she comments. This support has increased our research capacity and we are going to extend the study to other locations, mainly the regions with greater predictability. This is part of the support; we have already received two batches and I know we will have much more.”

According to Nadir Amad, Nacala Logistics is aware of the challenges that the country faces due to COVID-19, and it is the reason why the company has joined them to tackle the pandemic. “In compliance with our value, Love for Life, we provide several entities of the Nacala Corridor with hospital, individual protection, and disinfection supplies to tackle the pandemic,” comments the director of Nacala Logistics. Today, we donated 15 thousand kits for the serum-epidemiological survey to quickly test people who have been exposed to the virus.”

In the coming days, Nacala Logistics will also donate to the Niassa province five thousand kits for the serum-epidemiological survey, which will help them tackle COVID-19 in the northern region of the country.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Nacala Logistics has proactively taken several preventive measures to ensure the safety of its employees and the communities along the Nacala Corridor railroad. Among other actions, it has implemented the home office scheme for administrative workers, a daily checklist to check the health conditions of each employee, body temperature screening for all employees entering the company's facilities, reduction of the number of employees in the company's transport vehicles, suspension of non-essential travels, and prohibition of in-person meetings until further notice.

Nacala Logistics reaffirms its commitment to spare no effort to guarantee the health and safety of its employees and the communities surrounding its operational units, and asks everyone to follow the preventive measures recommended by the Mozambican health authorities and the World Health Organization.
