Vale’s Clean AER Project is the largest single environmental investment in Sudbury’s history, and one of the largest in Ontario, Canada. AER stands for “atmospheric emissions reduction.”
Clean AER – pronounced “air” – will result in an 85 per cent reduction in sulphur dioxide emissions from current levels when the project is complete.
To accomplish this, Vale is investing $1 billion to retrofit its smelter operations in the Sudbury region.
The goal of Clean AER is long-term environmental and economic sustainability of Vale’s operations in the Sudbury area.
