Clean AER Project Update

Vale’s Clean AER Project is the largest single environmental investment in Sudbury’s history, and one of the largest in Ontario, Canada. AER stands for  “atmospheric emissions reduction.”

A vast forest with the sun beating down on it Clean AER – pronounced “air” – will result in an 85 per cent reduction in sulphur dioxide emissions from current levels when the project is complete.

To accomplish this, Vale is investing $1 billion to retrofit its smelter operations in the Sudbury region.

The goal of Clean AER is long-term environmental and economic sustainability of Vale’s operations in the Sudbury area.
