Life in St. John's

Colourful houses located on the side of a hill in the St.John's harbourSt. John’s offers an urban environment with a distinct Newfoundland flavour. As the provincial capital, and with a population of 106,000, St. John’s has arts and culture, universities and colleges, and state-of-the-art hospitals, including one devoted solely to children.

But as North America’s oldest city, in a province that only became a part of Canada in 1949, St. John’s is a unique place to live. This port city’s core is centuries old, but it extends out to suburban housing developments, shopping complexes and industrial sites. St. John’s is also surrounded by parks and lakes, so hiking, camping, fishing and skiing are all nearby.

St. John’s is home to our Newfoundland and Labrador corporate office, where we focus on matters related to the two operational sites in the province: Voisey’s Bay and Long Harbour.
