Did you know that Vale operates with the Valemaxes, considered the most efficient ships in the world? From 2011 to 2017, we had in our fleet 35 of these ships, which we call the first-generation Valemax. They emit 35% less greenhouse gases than Capesize ships, which are the standard freighters for ore transportation.

In 2018, with the investment in environmental innovation and sustainability, we started to operate with the second generation of Valemaxes, even less polluting than all other ships. Also known as green ships, the second generation of Valemaxes emit 41% less greenhouse gases per tonne per mile transported compared to the Capesize fleet.By the end of 2019 there will be 32 second generation Valemaxes vessels, completing a fleet of 67 Valemaxes operating and contributing to transport ore in an increasingly efficient and clean way.
