The preservation of cultural heritage is one of the biggest contributions that Vale makes to society. Accordingly, we were proud to present the 21st edition of the Brazilian Music Awards, which honored singer and composer Dona Ivone Lara on August 11th.
The event featured performances by Délcio Carvalho, Arlindo Cruz, Caetano Veloso, Lenine and other artists, in between the presentation of awards in 12 categories.
Dona Ivone Lara contest
In order to stimulate artistic activities, Vale used the 2010 edition of the Brazilian Music Awards as the occasion to launch a talent contest for interpretations of Dona Ivone Lara’s compositions, open to both company employees and the general public. Clayton Nilo da Silva, a Vale employee at Sossego Mine in Canaã dos Carajás, Pará, and Tony Daniel, in the “Overall” category, lived the dream of many artists: to go onto the stage at the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro.
Chosen from among 183 company employees who posted videos on the internet, Clayton was the winner in the “Vale” category, winning a trip for two to New York and tickets to a Broadway musical. His trophy was presented to him by singer Alcione.
