Vale has become the largest mining company in the world, according to a ranking produced by American magazine Forbes. The list covers the 2,000 biggest companies in more than 60 countries. Called Forbes Global 2000, the ranking was published on April 21. Vale is at the top of the metals and mining sector and occupies 53rd place in the overall ranking.
Vale has advanced 27 places since last year, when the company was rated 80th. The criteria used by the magazine were net profit, sales, assets and market value. In the ranking based solely on market capitalization in the mining sector, Vale is in 2nd position.
Forbes magazine, an influential publication in the area of international business, politics and finance, has produced this ranking every year since 2003.
