Vale develops mobile mineral education center

The “Vale Truck” was recently presented for the first time during the process of selecting young people to participate in training courses at Engenhão Knowledge Station in the city of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). The vehicle gave the youngsters and their guardians an interactive learning experience about the importance of mining activities in our daily lives. Knowledge stations are human and economic development centers created by the Vale Foundation.

In addition to a virtual space in which visitors can discover how everyday products are made from minerals, the truck also has more traditional information boards about mining, including in Braille. Another attraction is the “Mineroteca,” an archive containing samples of different kinds of minerals.

The truck also has a flexible tent space that can be used for mini-courses and talks. The vehicle will be driven around the country as part of initiatives organized by Vale.

Environmentally responsible materials

Besides its educational features, the Vale Truck also stands out for the fact that large parts of it are made from reused materials. The deck floor is made from recycled plastic bottles and one of its internal walls is made of Tetra Pak cartons. The truck’s floor is made of certified wood, aligning the vehicle’s construction with the environmental responsibility practiced by Vale.
