Vale has won the top prize in the Época Climate Change Awards, in the “Best Strategy in Industry” category, meaning that its plan to cut operational greenhouse gas emissions is considered the best among all Brazilian companies studied. In 2009, Vale was ranked among the top 21 companies in terms of climate change policy.
We recognize the far-reaching potential consequences of climate change, in its regulatory, corporate, physical and socioeconomic aspects. The company has been contributing to the formation of effective global agreements, promoting discussion and providing concrete examples of action, such as investment in biodiesel.
About the awards
This is the third edition of the Época Climate Change Awards, organized in partnership with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). The Awards recognize companies that stand out for their policies and actions to cut carbon emissions. This year, the 400 biggest companies and 25 largest banks in Brazil were invited to take part. Other companies, government entities and organizations entered the awards on their own initiative.
PwC was responsible for checking and classifying the data provided by companies and analyzing their responses using its own methodology, developed by its sustainability specialists.
