Vale participated in the first 1st Zambian International Mining & Energy Conference & Exhibition (ZIMEC), in the city of Lusaka, Zambia. One of the event’s sponsors, the company presented its mining projects for the African continent.
Vale’s experience in sustainable mining was the highlight of the conference. The company is currently undertaking projects in various African countries. Besides a copper mine in the Zambian Copper Belt, Vale is developing the biggest infrastructure-integrated iron ore project on the continent, in Simandou, Guinea. Meanwhile, Moatize Mine in Mozambique will produce 11 million metric tons of metallurgical and energy coal per year for the next 35 years.
About the Konkola North project
Located in the Zambian Copper Belt, Konkola North is an underground mine with an estimated nominal production capacity of 45,000 metric tons of copper in concentrate per year.
The project is part of our 50/50 joint venture with African Rainbow Minerals. Production Is planned to start up in 2013.
