The Carajás Railroad (known by its Portuguese acronym, EFC) was established in 1985, connecting the Carajás iron mines in the state of Pará to Ponta da Madeira Port Terminal in the state of Maranhão, Brazil.
The 892-km railroad mainly carries iron ore, pig iron, manganese, copper, fuels and coal. EFC has more than 10,000 train cars and 220 locomotives. The railroad operates the biggest train in the world, made up of four locomotives and 330 cars.
EFC also carries people. On average, 1,300 passengers travel every day along a route that passes through 25 towns and municipalities in Maranhão and Pará.
