Our coal assets are concentrated in four countries: Australia, Colombia, Mozambique and China.
Coal
Coal is formed by the decomposition of plants without oxygen. Found in more than 50 countries, it is the world’s most abundant fossil fuel and it can be transported, stored and produced easily and safely.
Vale’s operations produce both thermal and metallurgical coal. Thermal coal is used to generate heat and power in thermal power plants, while metallurgical coal is used in steel mills as part of the processing of iron ore.
