Many of the minerals present in rocks are of great use in the everyday lives of millions of people throughout the world. A quick look around can be surprising. We only have to ask ourselves what the objects and structures that surround us are composed of.
In our homes, products made from rocks and minerals extend from the floor to the ceiling: cement in the walls, copper in electrical wiring and iron in plumbing. Domestic appliances, computer screens and even the fertilizers that enable food to be produced contain substances obtained from mining, one of Vale’s main business lines.
These minerals are extracted through processes that involve geological research, the opening and operation of mines, and the processing of material. We now produce iron ore, pellets, nickel, fertilizers, copper, coal, cobalt, manganese and ferroalloys, as well as platinum group metals and precious metals.
Through investments in technology and logistics, we ensure efficiency, growth and sustainability in our operations. In addition, Vale is actively engaged in mineral exploration in 24 countries.
