Our fertilizer operations have the potential to transform Vale into a leading producer in this market. We concentrate our production on potash and phosphates, although we also produce nitrogen fertilizer.
We have potash, phosphate and nitrogen fertilizer assets in Brazil, and a phosphate rock mine in Peru.
Fertilizers
Certain mineral substances are used by the farming industry to improve the soil’s performance for crop production. These mineral fertilizers are divided into three main groups: potassium (in the form of potash), phosphate and nitrogen.
Phosphate enables plants to exploit a larger area of soil, thereby extracting more nutrients. Potassium is fundamental to the quality of fruits. Nitrogen, in turn, is indispensable to photosynthesis, favoring rapid plant growth.
