Vale is conducting mineral fertilizer exploration projects and investing in the expansion of its operations in order to increase its geographical and product diversification. Read about our main fertilizer projects:
Located in the Mendoza region, this project involves mine investment, the building of a new maritime terminal, the renovation of 440 km of railroad tracks and the construction of another 350 km of railroad. The initial nominal capacity of this potash mine (potassium chloride, KCl) will be 2.1 million metric tons per year (Mtpy), and this is set to expand to 4.3 million metric tons per yer (Mtpy).
Situated in the state of Minas Gerais, this project entails developing a mine capable of producing an estimated 2.2 million metric tons per yer (Mtpy) of phosphate concentrate. We plan to build a plant with the capacity to produce 560,000 metric tons of phosphorus pentoxide per year, connected to an 18-km mineral pipeline. The project is subject to approval from the Board of Directors.
Located in the Piura Desert, Bayóvar Mine will have its nominal production capacity raised by 1.9 million metric tons per yer (Mtpy) of phosphate rock. The project is subject to approval from the Board of Directors.
