Vale promotes and supports initiatives to conserve endangered animal and plant species. By doing so, we help to develop a culture of respect for biodiversity.
In Brazil, we monitor the habits of felines that live in the Vale Natural Reserve and we undertake genetic studies in partnership with renowned universities. In Carajás Forest, the chance discovery of a nest of harpy eagles gave rise to a partnership with the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) and the National Amazon Research Institute (INPA) to monitor the habits of this bird.
In New Caledonia, we are monitoring whales in order to minimize the risk of accidents involving the ships that transport our minerals from the island.
