 New “Knowledge Stations”

Arari In December 2010, the Vale Foundation inaugurated two more Estações Conhecimento (“Knowledge Stations”): one in the town of Serra (Espírito Santo) and the other in Arari (Maranhão). The program now has six centers in operation, out of a total of 18 to be opened by 2012 in various Brazilian states.

The Estação Conhecimento in Serra is already being used by children and teenagers. The center, which covers 40,000 m², will in due course have semi-Olympic swimming pools, facilities for education and vocational training and a theater able to accommodate 400 people. The initiative is being carried out in partnership with the municipal government of Serra.

Serra The Arari center is located in a rural area close to the Carajás Railroad (EFC), and it covers around 500,000 m². Besides benefiting from educational and sports activities, local children and teenagers will have the opportunity to learn about initiatives to expand rural production.
