Through musical notes, scales and scores, 131 children and teenagers from Pará have broadened their horizons. They have been participating in the Vale Music Youth Orchestra for one year now, and have already performed in some of the country’s major cities. To celebrate the anniversary, the orchestra gave a public concert on February 12 on the stage where the project was born: the Theatro da Paz (“Theater of Peace”) in Belém, Pará.
These talented young people were discovered by the Vale Music program in Pará, which is run by the Vale Foundation in partnership with the Amazon Music Foundation. Boys and girls from 10 to 20 years of age share the stage with professionals and show how art is an important agent for transforming individuals and the community.
The orchestra features string, wind and percussion instruments and its repertoire ranges from classical music to national folklore. In just one year, the young musicians have experienced great moments such as performing the “Traveler of the Amazon Legends” opera at the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro, which recently reopened after a long restoration.
