As a leading global mining company, Vale works to create value and construct a positive legacy for future generations in the 38 countries where it operates. In 2009, we established our Sustainable Development Policy, a document of global scope that guides the company’s actions, from investment decisions up to procedures for winding up operations.
In January 2011, as part of our series of initiatives in the field of sustainability, we sponsored a special National Geographic magazine supplement. The supplement, distributed in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Australia, Singapore, South Africa and South America, celebrated the year 2010 – declared the International Year of Biodiversity by the United Nations.
