Sossego Plant, located in Pará, Brazil, reuses almost 100% of the water used in the copper concentrate production process. This is possible thanks to adjustments in the process together with periodic equipment maintenance. As a result, in October, 99.99% of water was recycled, a record at Sossego.
As of October, water in the tailings pond is now reused in the plant, ensuring rational water use at operating units. Reusing water is of great benefit as it avoids the need to collect fresh water from the Parauapebas River.
Water Resource Management
Last year, Vale’s overall water reuse rate was 76%, and as high as 90% in some areas. Our goal is to reduce water consumption, minimize the production of effluent (liquid or gaseous substances produced by industry) and raise the percentage of water reused.
