Ponta da Madeira Port Complex’s level of water reuse has now reached 40%. The port has taken action to reuse water, thereby reducing the need to use wells and so preserving aquifers.
In the first half of this year, investment was made in a rainwater collection system. This reservoir has been used as of the second half of the year, and the complex’s well extraction capacity has been reduced from 335 m³ per hour to 310 m³ per hour. As a result, less water is being extracted from underground.
Water resource management
The solution employed at Ponta da Madeira is a way of ensuring sustainable water use, which is important in industrial processes. It also helps to cut water use at the complex, which is due to implement an Integrated Water Resource Management System by the end of the year. This system will enable the port’s entire North System to use rainwater and will provide salinity control data relating to the wells.
