Vale’s Japanese refinery plans to cut CO2 emissions

Vale’s nickel refinery in Matsusaka, Japan, is taking measures to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by the end of this year. The 43-year-old facility is being converted to use natural gas as a reduction agent instead of kerosene. The conversion will cut the refinery’s annual CO2 emissions by 3,744 metric tons, or around 20%.

This measure adopted by Vale is in line with Japan’s plans to cut CO2 emissions. It is expected that the conversion will have been completed by December of this year.
