Rather than acting merely as an agent for economic change, Vale makes an important contribution to social, economic and environmental development in the regions where it operates. We acknowledge that this kind of development is achievable only with the participation of various community groups and local government agencies and we do our best to promote this type of integrated action. This is why we base all our actions on the following principles:
- Compliance with legislative requirements: we honor all our legal obligations
- Contextualization of the land we plan to use for a new project: we define an insertion strategy appropriate to the current regional situation
- Effective mitigation of environmental impacts on the project site: we take action aimed at preventing, controlling, minimizing and offsetting adverse effects brought about during the project’s lifecycle
- Maximization of positive impacts: management of the value chain to reinforce the positive effects of our operations and pass on a positive social, economic and environmental legacy in the regions where we operate
- Sustainable land development: based on the existing activities and needs of the local community, we set up a framework for integrated communication with various representatives in order to define action plans. In this way, we strengthen the dynamics of growth and economic diversification, and promote social wellbeing and sustainable use of environmental resources.
