PT Vale and Lutim Regency Launch Development Program of Self-sufficient Rural Areas

PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (PT Vale) together with the government of East Luwu (Lutim) Regency launched the Community Development and Empowerment Program (PPM) to create self-sufficient villages called PKPM at the Taman Antar Bangsa (TAB) Hall, Sorowako, South Sulawesi, on May 3, 2019.

The event was attended by the Director of Economic Development in Rural Areas of the Ministry of the Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Luthfy Latief, Head of Safety Sub Directorate of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Lana Sariyah, Deputy Governor of South Sulawesi Andi Sudirman Sulaiman, East Luwu Regent M. Thoriq Husler, Chairman of East Luwu PPM Coordination Team Irwan Bachry Syam and PT Vale's management represented by COO Vinicius Mendes Ferreira, Director of Support and Site Services Agus Superiadi and Director of External Relations & Corporate Affairs Gunawardana Vinyaman.

The launch of the program was marked by handing over symbolically the Rural Regions Development Plan Document (RPKP) from Chairman of the East Luwu PPM Coordination Team Irwan Bachry Syam to the stakeholders. The handing over of the document was the follow-up of the signing ceremony of the launching of PT Vale's Community Empowerment Program (PPM) which was held on Friday morning during the 16th anniversary of East Luwu in Malili.

PT Vale's Director of Support and Site Services Agus Superiadi in his speech said that the community development program was a result of the synergy between the company and the government. It is also one of PT Vale's efforts to adjust its community development program with the latest regulations, specifically the Village Law and the ESDM Ministerial Decree 1824 concerning the Implementation Guidelines for Community Development and Empowerment.

"Through this self-sufficient village development platform, the Company's social programs will be developed and implemented in synergy and be oriented towards regional economic growth in accordance with their each potential so that they can accelerate the achievement of East Luwu Regency’s development goals," said Agus Superiadi.

The program will be implemented in 38 villages in 4 districts grouped into 10 development regions according to the characteristics and potentials of the areas such as agriculture, tourism, industry, MSMEs, and livestock for a period of 5 years (2019-2022). This program has completed the implementation of previous scheme called Integrated Community Empowerment Program (PTPM).

I am proud and grateful to the provincial government and the related ministries for supporting this partnership model of social program. Hopefully this program will generate a wider positive impact and be enjoyed by the community more than the previous one,

M. Thoriq Husler _ East Luwu Regent

East Luwu Regent M. Thoriq Husler in his remarks said the PKPM Program was designed and synergized by all levels of stakeholders starting from the village, district to regency. "I am proud and grateful to the provincial government and the related ministries for supporting this partnership model of social program. Hopefully this program will generate a wider positive impact and be enjoyed by the community more than the previous one," said M. Thoriq Husler.

In the meantime, Director of Economic Development in Rural Areas of the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Luthfy Latief expressed his appreciation to the East Luwu Regency Government and PT Vale who have succeeded in creating a joint program for the development of their territories and communities so as to assist the government's development plan.

Meanwhile Deputy Governor of South Sulawesi Andi Sudirman Sulaiman said that the success of the PKPM Program would be determined by its effective and efficient implementation. "In carrying out a development program, we must always focus on the program's objectives and execute the work plans completely. No less important is that the program implementers must work together with all relevant parties. Now, with the help of several ministries, especially the Ministry of Finance, I think this PKPM Program can be realized well and God willing, all parties will feel the benefits," concluded Andi Sudirman.

The event of PPM-PKPM program launching was accompanied by a gala dinner, the awarding of the PMDM Award for social program participants in 2018 and the launch of organic rice cultivated by farmers fostered by PT Vale with the brand name "Matano Rice".
