Bird-watching
program
Vale Natural Reserve is home to approximately 391 bird species, which corresponds to about 20% of the species recorded in the whole country. Among them, there are some endangered species such as the red-billed curassow, solitary tinamou and harpy eagle, the largest bird of prey in Brazil.
Together with Sooretama Biological Reserve, Vale Natural Reserve is classified by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area, due to the significant number of endemic and endangered species found in this single block of Atlantic Forest.
