Indonesian Mining Association (Perhapi) Chairman Rizal Kasli believes the government’s downstream policy is already on the mark because it provides an added value for the nation. “If it (mining products) are processed domestically first, then it would provide more benefits for the nation and the people,” he said. Meanwhile, in order to provide maximum contributions to the state, companies and the people, the national mining industry should also continue implementing good mining practices, such as green mining.

Vale Indonesia, for example, stated in its published sustainable report that it is committed to implementing sustainable mining operations, ensuring that the company’s existence provides benefits for the people surrounding its operational areas and supporting all efforts to preserve the environment. Vale Indonesia President Director Nicolas D. Kanter said Vale is committed to complying with all regulations and implementing sustainable principles.
