The air quality control measures in Barra Longa and in the district of Gesteira, in Minas Gerais, gained strength in the last few months with the use of a sweeper truck and two spray cannons to moisten the urban thoroughfares, construction sites and unpaved accesses. “This work was being executed by water trucks, with a capacity of 10 thousand and 20 thousand liters, which shall continue to be employed to avoid that the dust particles are suspended by the passage of the vehicles”, Pedro Ivo affirms, who works in the Environmental Management of the programs developed by the Renova Foundation.
Other actions to minimize the dispersion of the particulate material are the cleaning of the streets, the collection of waste and the revegetation of embankments on riverbanks and exposed areas. The levels of particulate material are monitored daily by means of the air quality monitoring station, located in the city center.
In October, the Total Concentrations of Suspended Particles (PTS) exceeded, in some days, the limit established by the Conama, which is of 240 mg/m³, as a result of the completion of the infrastructure works in the city center. However, after delivery, results returned to normal.
The Renova Foundation has the mission of implementing and managing the repair, restoration and reconstruction programs, of the regions impacted by the rupturing of the Fundão dam, located in the subdistrict of Bento Rodrigues, in Mariana, Minas Gerais.
The Foundation’s role is to restore and reestablish the communities and the resources impacted by the rupturing and also substitute or compensate what cannot be remedied, always in an efficient, appropriate, transparent and ethical manner.
