Students, parents, teachers and staff of the Escola Municipal de Paracatu de Baixo participated in a series of activities promoted by Renova Foundation earlier this month. The goal of the initiative was to enable the discussion of environmental issues according to the context in which the community is located.
Conversation circles and drawing and painting workshops were performed, and it was held, in partnership with the Civil Defense of Mariana, a lecture on environmental emergencies and risks of the rainy season. A manual rain gauge was installed in the school and doubts about the resettlement program for residents of Paracatu were clarified.
Environmental Education Program (PEA)
PEA actions, which began in August this year, aim to share knowledge on environmental issues in communities impacted by the collapse of the Fundão tailings dam. So far, actions have been held with the youth group of Bento Rodrigues, and also in schools of Paracatu de Baixo, Barra Longa and Gesteira.
The Renova Foundation’s mission is to implement and manage the repair, restoration and reconstruction programs of the regions affected by the collapse of the Fundão dam, located in the subdistrict of Bento Rodrigues, in Mariana, Minas Gerais.
The Renova Foundation’s role is to restore and reestablish communities and resources affected by the collapse as well as replace or compensate what is not subject to remediation, always in an efficient, reputable, transparent and ethical manner.
