As provided in the agreement signed in March this year by Samarco, its shareholders, Vale and BHP Billiton, and public agencies, Renova Foundation started its operations on August 2nd. The entity takes on all repair activities previously conducted by Samarco and its shareholders.
A private, non-profit entity, the Foundation received the name "Renova" in line with its goal to repair, restore and rebuild the impacts caused by Fundão dam break. It will be responsible for 41 environmental and socioeconomic programs under the Agreement, and its headquarters will be in Belo Horizonte.
Its brand is simple and dynamic: the lowercase letters Renova refer to humility, because that is how it will work, and the uppercase letters of the Foundation refer to the strength it should have. The three parts represent working together - communities, companies and governments - and three colors refer to the waters of the rivers, the forests and the land.
