Vale informs about public civil action

Vale informs that a decision was rendered in the scope of the public civil action submitted to 12ª Vara Federal of Belo Horizonte, filed against Samarco Mineração S.A. and its shareholders, BHP Billiton Brasil Ltda. and Vale. It determined that the companies, within (i) 90 days, prove that the leakage of waste from Fundão tailing dam were definitely stopped; (ii) 6 months, present conclusive studies, with the endorsement from the appropriate environmental agencies, regarding the action plan and the feasibility of the withdrawal of mud placed on the banks of Rio Doce river, its affluents and the areas near its estuary; (iii) 30 days, make a complement deposit in the total amount of R$1.200.000.000,00 to safeguard future reparatory measures.

Vale will adopt all measures to guarantee its right of defense within the legal period and will continue to support Samarco to accomplish reparatory measures, keeping the market informed in case of any new material information related to this action.
