Vale, as a shareholder of Samarco together with BHP, is deeply saddened by the accident involving Samarco’s tailings dams in the municipalities of Mariana and Ouro Preto in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais and expresses its solidarity with Samarco’s employees, their families and the communities affected by the accident.
Since the quick initiation of Samarco’s emergency plan, designed to secure the safety of people and the integrity of the environment, Vale has offered its full support and assistance to Samarco’s teams and local authorities working in the region.
“We would like to express our solidarity to all affected by this accident at Samarco’s tailings dams in the state of Minas Gerais. We will do everything in our power to offer all the necessary support to Samarco and the authorities at this sad time for employees, their family members and the neighboring communities,” said Murilo Ferreira, CEO and president of Vale.
