Vale is a long-term partner of China and one of the first companies in the world to export iron ore to China.
Where are we?
Currently, we have three Collaboration Hubs in China, which are located in Shanghai, Beijing and Qingdao.

What do we do?
We sell mineral and metal products in China market and buy equipment, material and services from China for our global operations.
There are some key milestones in our partnership with China:

1973
The first shipment of iron ore was sent to China.

1978
The first long-term contract was signed with China.

1985
Regular sales of iron ore started in China.

1994
Vale’s first office in China was opened in Shanghai.

2006
China became the largest market for Vale.

2009
Vale Minerals (China) Co., Ltd. (VMC) was established.

2015
Vale Beijing Office was opened.

2015
The first fully-loaded berth of Valemax was successfully made in China.

2015
Started partnering with Chinese ports on iron ore blending operations to produce Brazilian Blend Fines (BRBF).

2016
Vale Metals (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (VMS) was established.

2018
Started to use the second-generation Valemaxes to transport iron ore to China.

2019
Vale Qingdao Office was opened.
In addition to operations
On October 18th, 2022, Vale announced donation of USD 5.81 million to support Central South University (“CSU”) in establishing a new laboratory for low-carbon and hydrogen metallurgy, which aims to boost China's steel industry to speed the decarbonization process up and achieve green development.
