Global Trainee

About the program

Regardless of your field of study, if you are a natural leader who is serious about building their professional career, we are looking for you!
The Global Trainee Program is a developmental program which helps young professionals embark on a rewarding career. Trainees will have the opportunity to build their professional network by working with experienced leaders to develop their skills. The program uses job rotations to help graduates acquire diverse work experience through multidisciplinary projects, allowing them to further their professional development. This is an exciting opportunity to work for a leader in the critical minerals industry that is supplying the resources essential for a sustainable world.

Who are we looking for?​

The Global Trainee program w​elcomes all recent graduates.

Whether your field is geology, engineering, information technology, human resources, operating, accounting or environment and sustainability, we have a place for you.
  • Graduates who have completed their programs between May 2020 – May 2023; Ability to demonstrate leadership potential;
     
  • A respect for our people and the planet;
     
  • Strategic mindset;
     
  • Broad understanding of Vale’s business practices;
     
  • Digital mindset;
     
  • Willingness to relocate or travel within Canada;
     
  • and Advanced or fluent in English.

As a Global Trainee, you will have access to opportunities such as:

  • A customized career development program;
     
  • Mentorship from senior leaders;

  • Unique opportunity to tour underground mine sites and understand the supply chain from the bottom-up.

Selection Process

September and October: Application

In this first phase, we want to learn a little more about you. You as an applicant must complete a form answering questions about yourself, your studies, and your working preferences. ​

October and November: Evaluation

In this phase, you will learn more about Vale. You will need to solve business cases, answer questions regarding how you prefer to work and prove your ability to analyze and solve problems.

November: Interviews with managers

At this point, you will meet our HR team and hiring managers. You can use this opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the program.

December: Results

At this time, you will find out if you have been accepted into the Global Trainee Program and will receive next steps on how to join our global team.

Candidates from all areas of studies, who have graduated between May 2020 to May 2023 are qualified to apply to the Global Trainee Program.
You must complete an application form about yourself, your studies, and your working preferences. This will be followed by an evaluation process, which includes completing a quiz and solving business cases. If you are selected to move on, you will be invited to an interview with the HR team and hiring managers. Please see the selection process above.
Applications open on September 14, 2022 and close on October 28, 2022 at 12:00 a.m EST.
Applicants will receive updates about the status of their application throughout the recruitment process. Successful candidates will be notified in December 2022 and will start with the company in May 2023.​
The duration of the Global Trainee Program is 18 months, starting in May 2023.
Employees in the Global Trainee Program will participate in various job rotations. In some cases, they may have an opportunity to complete a rotation in a different department aligned with their interests and development needs. In addition, employees will get involved in various activities and projects to develop key leadership and technical skills.
Yes, Global Trainees are required to work full-time and are Vale employees from day one.
Yes, Vale offers a market-competitive salary to all Global Trainees.
Positions which allow for remote work can be done from home. Some positions require on-site work. Vale has strict protocols in place to ensure everyone’s health and safety, including COVID-19 protocols.
Yes, it counts towards your P. Eng.
